Has anyone who has already played the game found any of the imagery too scary? I'm hesitant to let my little sister play any ghost themed Nancy Drew games after the Shadow at the Waters Edge ghost being a little bit too creepy....

I think it depends on the child's age. I would say if the child is over 10, it should be okay.
To be personally honest, I played this game and I am in college and I do not scare easily. The game itself did really scare me; however, after I finished it and it got dark, I became paranoid that something was going to jump out at me.
But, again, the actual game itself, is not bad. I only jumped once.

Yea Its somewhat creepy.....I jumped acouple of times....and to be perfectly honest a couple of times I even hid my eyes haha.....But yet thats me.....It mainly depends on how old your younger sister is. My little sister sat down to watch me but i told her no cuz i thought it was to creepy for her. But yet shes not even 10 so yea

It all depends on the child. I would be able to play it from seven above (Just because of the difficulty factor) I didn't find any of it "scary" sometimes things would startle me, but I never "jumped" i may have just shaken a little. But It was more that the things were unexpected, that made me jump.all of Jesus none of me.

Full disclosure: I get freaked out by jump-scares very easily and creepy atmospheres can scare me too.
Mostly whenever I encountered Charlotte it was like *gasp* followed by a short period of barely breathing until she went away. I found that a lot of the scariness in this game was not from the ghost and various scares around the house a la MHM (though those could be a creepy) but from the darker-than-usual psychological aspects, which I think made the game more terrifying for older players than younger.

Most of the time I like scary stuff, but for some reason I was on edge the whole time. I jumped at everything! In the end I really liked the game, and i liked being scared, but i don't think I want to play it again haha!Far over the misty mountains cold.
To dungeons deep, and caverns old.
We must away,'ere break of day.
To find our long forgotten gold.
The pines were roaring on the height.
The winds were moaning in the night.
The fire was red, it flaming spread.
The trees like torches blazed with light.

this game is SO SCARY to me!!
hi all, i just wanted to share that i find GTH to be the scariest nancy drew game ever... and i have played them all, multiple times each in most cases!
i'm a lifetime fan and devotee of these wonderful mysteries, but this game seems to have a creep factor about it that is sometimes making it not so enjoyable for me to play. in most other games there is some "relief" from the scary factor, however on this one i feel every area you go to is really terrifying and i keep having to quit playing to take a break, from getting so creeped out!
i am an adult, and i know many people really enjoy the scare factor, and i do somewhat as well, but this game actually feels a bit... dare i say.. evil to me? i am wondering if i'm going to finish the game as i'm only 1/2 way through. it's funny because usually when you discover an underground tunnel, it's really scary in the other games, however, in this game i find the underground passageways to be downright charming compared to the rest of the settings, scenery and overall vibe of the game!
just my 2 cents, y'all! carry on sleuthing... i'll think only be playing during the day though! haha!

..still not sure...
The ghost in SAWE really disturbed her ( i mean that mirror sequence was intense) to the point that she was afraid to stay home alone ( she's *Age Removed*). The Haunting of Castle Malloy didn't seem to bother her though and the "banshee" in that is a little creepy. What would you say in comparison to that? I just don't need this girl getting nightmares over a game that is supposedly suitable for ages 10 and up..

Btw, I like your name Shiek....Zelda fan? ;)
To me, it wasn't so much "scary", as it was creepy. After playing some of it a second time, I had a freaky dream myself where she was beside my bed and jumped at me. It was really creepy. And I'm quite a bit older than your younger sister. (I'm *Age Removed*).
As far as comparing GTH to another game. It was like SAW, it had a ghost, and strange things happen. But in SAW it was because a person. In GTH, you don't get that overall explanation. If it was my sister, personally I wouldn't let her play it.

Gleam and glow,
Let your power shine,
Make the clock reverse,
Bring back what once was mine,
Heal what has been hurt,
Change the fates design,
Save what has been lost,
Bring back what once was mine,
What once, was mine.
Thanks Disneygirl12 for the fades.

It'll just depend on how old she is, really. Because I played the game in a completely dark room at night and was perfectly fine :p I mean, you could always play it with her or something?......,+´¨¯¨`׸+´¨¯¨`׸

I definitely thought the game was pretty scary--though I think maybe SAW scared me more because the ghost there was a bit more morbid than the one in this game. It was more of the shock factor than anything that scared me. Most of the ghostly happenings that were similar to those in MHM happened more than once in the game, so after the first time it was less shocking. I do believe the first time you see the ghost is fairly early in the game so perhaps play it up to there (yourself) and decide if you think she will find it to be too scary? You will be a better judge as to whether it will scare her or not since you actually know her!♥ It's locked! رReally, Nancy? It's scary but honestly, there's nothing in it that's inappropriate for a child under 10, at least not that I've come across. If she gets freaked out and doesn't enjoy scary games then of course she shouldn't play it. If she's fine with them it shouldn't be a problem.
