You should! It's a more diverse instrument than a whistle, since those are diatonic, and it's got a massive range and widely adaptable tone based on articulation. I will say that the flute requires a lot of air because you're blowing across a hole, so much of your breath isn't even going into the instrument, and your mouth muscles get worked like crazy. I've heard musicians say that it takes more air to play a flute than a tuba, and that's probably true. I don't play regularly anymore, but whenever I pull my flute out, my face starts burning about 45 minutes in because I'm not using those muscles anymore and my embouchure isn't that great. I used to be able to sustain a note on one breath for around 16-30 seconds, but I never learned how to do circular breathing. Anyway, don't let the breath support part scare you. It's really not too terrible, and if you're already accustomed to a wind instrument and working those lungs/diaphragm, it'll come to you!
Hahaha, I'm still procrastinating on my SPY review, so I feel that. Ah, well that doesn't surprise me--it's not my favorite either--but I'm excited to hear your thoughts!
