Thief at beginning

I chased the thief but lost them and now I'm stuck. I picked up the ticket and key but it keeps telling me to see where they went but I'm not seeing anything so what am I missing? any help including spoilers welcomed.

Please remember that using white font to hide information is not allowed. If you want to hide items in the future you MUST use spoiler code. The information was not a spoiler so I just changed it to black.

There is one more item you need to find, to show how they disappeared, and then the game will move you forward automatically.

How do you use spoiler code? And do you know what the item is that I am looking for or where I should be looking for it?

The item you are looking for is in the same area you found the other two items. It was used to create the smoke.
