  • This game was pretty cool. I enjoyed the character's different personalities, especially Yumi, she was my favourite :). I liked the snooping, but really hated the transportation. The puzzles were also way too challenging. I found myself on his board asking for help, one task after another. I liked the cultural stuff we could learn from this game about Japan and how it was fun to do things like make orgami or calligraphy. I'd love to try some bento boxes.. Although I'd be ok without making them for a while :P. 7/10

        • This game was pretty good. There were a few intense moments when I was glad my younger siblings weren't watching.

This game is probably not for you if you scare easily.

I enjoyed the characters. They had unique personalities.

          • 9/10!

            PROS:
            Length- it was pretty long
            Setting
Ending- So as to not give anything away, I'll just say there were some plot twists
Scariness- it was actually pretty scary!

            CONS:
Puzzles- some were fun, some were unrealistic and kind of silly
also, sometimes you're stuck and just have to go to bed and make something happen. That was annoying.

            Overall, super fun game.

            ♥♥

            • I'm Excited!!

After reading all these reviews, and the one on Wikipedia (the first one I've seen for a ND game) I am happy to say I'm so excited to play this game!! For some reason when I was looking up new games to play I kept passing over this one. Probably b/c I didn't know what it was about. But I'm glad I kept stumbling on it so I can definitely download it and play. I'm looking forward to snooping more and especially getting scared! I love when ND games do that.

              • Not the best ND

Overall the game was OK, but quite frustrating.

Really, if I wanted to play Sudoku I would pull out my phone.

Story was Ok but puzzles were not what I expected from a ND title. They are usually more sensible and satisfying.

My biggest complaint: The voice-acting of Savannah. I found her stereotypical southern accent quite insulting. We do not EVER use "y'all" as a singular pronoun. It means you all and we use it when referring to a group or addressing a person and wish to include their family or some other inclusive group. I can only imagine how insulting the Japanese accents might have been to native Japanese speakers. I wouldn't know.

I have bought other titles and really enjoyed them. So I will continue to play ND games. This one was just not my favorite.

                • Amazing 10/10

                  I adored this game.

For one, I hate having to resort to using spoilers and this game not only allowed you to progress through the story line at a level that meant it was solvable and manageable on your own, it was just full of enjoyment and great characters.

It's length was good and the puzzles were lots of fun.

My favourite game of the series so far along with Last Train to Blue Moon canyon <3

Shadow at Water's Edge is one of my personal favorites! The puzzles are challenging yet fun, the music is enchanting, and the characters are absolutely hilarious. Setting the mystery in Japan made for culturally appropriate puzzles, and like all the other games set in a foreign country, I learned a lot about the culture. This was probably the scariest of the games and a the scary parts seemed to pay homage to a certain horror film. Definitely don't play this one in the dark and grab a buddy is at all possible. The plot line took me, the player, on a roller coaster guessing who was the culprit.

                    • I've been playing Nancy Drew games since Message in a Haunted Mansion came out. I've played almost all of them and I really enjoyed this one! I've played it about 4 times and its great every time. I enjoyed learning about the culture and the game really freaked me out. One of my favorites.

This game was a pretty big culture switched game. That being said, the characters were a bit boring. One of the puzzles would not work for me. I eventually had to restart the whole game. Which sucked. The subway was a bit confusing, although it is to be expected being that it IS a subway. All in all, it was a bit boring of a game to me

                        • I know this is probably the unpopular opinion, but I really didn't like this game. All of the characters were extremely boring and talked forever. I didn't find the puzzles very fun or the game itself very interesting. I was excited for a game in Japan, but it was a huge letdown.

                          • Puzzling Puzzles

I LOVED that this game took place in Japan and incorporated Japanese modern and traditional culture... I love learning about different cultures.

What I did not love was the difficulty of practically ALL of the number puzzles... nanograms, the master sudoku, and the renograms mainly. Those were SO tedious and I honestly looked up a spoiler for all of them because I did not care and did not want to waste my time on those types of puzzles.
I also did not like that I couldn't see what the garden might have looked like in the day time, but that's just me! :)

I LOVED the bento box puzzles, though! I refused to look at spoilers for those because I loved them so much. The mirror door puzzle was also a great one...

Overall, Nancy is awesome and the inn was such a great idea for a location.

I'll definitely say that it was pretty hard at certain parts i.e. Bento Boxes (gggrrrrrrrr) and the puzzles Rentaro gave you. Overall however, I thought it was thrilling and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time
