    The Secret of Shadow Ranch
    A Review by Songlily

    Mode:
    Senior Detective

This game was excellent. Probably not my favorite, but very close. It's got
a heap of puzzles, some that are pretty difficult. If you like solving little games
or mazes or the like, this game is for you. It does have a few chores that you
have to do, but they are not that difficult and do not detract from the mystery
(in fact, they were kind of fun!).

SHA requires a lot of reading information, writing down notes/information,
and paying attention to little details in the game. I used up half of a notebook
writing down everything! This aspect really made me feel more involved in
the game, instead of Nancy just remembering all the information and me
not having to do a thing!

The time in the game goes by days--Day 1, 2, & 3. There's no alarm clock,
so you cannot jump ahead; instead, the game progresses based on what you do.
There's not really any lag time, so if you find yourself walking around bored,
you're probably supposed to be doing something important! As soon as you've
done everything you should have for one day, the game will progress.
    It's a good system.

The only tedious thing, I felt, about the game was the transportation.
Riding a horse was a neat idea, but it took a bit of rigomarole--asking Tex for permission,
getting the saddle, saddling Bob, taking him into the corral, stopping at every
place on the map instead of taking direct routes, etc. Sometimes, when
I was out riding but needed to call someone or get one little thing from the ranch,
I would have to come all the way back, totally undo the saddle and whatnot,
and then have to start all over thirty seconds later. It was just a bit of a hassle.
That was the only thing I really disliked about this game though.

The characters were great and kept you guessing--you had a reason to suspect
all of them! They were fun to talk to and very well-programmed.
    The voices were superb.

Overall, this game was fun, long, challenging, and engaging--everything a
    Nancy Drew game should be!

    9.5/10

I agree. I absolutely LOVED this game! It was my favorite, because I love animals, and the plot was fantastic!
      Words keep falling
      out of my pocket
      running late, missed the train
      everything is dropping
      holding onto my heart
in a rush I almost forgot it

I won't be on HER as much
because I have an eye condition
that prevents me from being able
to use the computer a lot.
