    MED Review

Overall, I thought that The Shattered Medallion was a nice break from some of the more serious games that we have had recently (GTH and SPY). It was very beautifully done with bright fun scenes. That said, I only gave this game a 6, because while it was very beautiful and the story was well thought out and cohesive, the game, for me, lacked any suspense. At no point was I greatly compelled to keep playing because I didn't find the story overly engaging. It wasn't a bad game, however compared to some of the other games we've had recently (DED, GTH, and SPY, which I thought were all terrific) this one seemed lackluster.
Have officially finished all Nancy Drew games

    My favorites:
    Secret of Shadow Ranch
Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon
    Ghost of Thornton Hall
    The Silent Spy
    Labyrinth of Lies

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
    ~Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
    A.K.A My favorite novel ever

Just as I am loyal to The Doctor, and not the actor playing him, I am loyal to Nancy. There will be an adjustment period for the new voice actor for Nancy, however, I've made it through many regenerations watching Doctor Who. If I have learned to love a new Doctor that many times, I'm sure I can learn to love a new voice for Nancy.

Personally I found this rather interesting. Ever since Sonny Joon was first suggested I wanted to know more. Despite this not being like all the other games, and rather short, I really enjoyed the story. I rather wish there was a bit more to it, especially puzzle-wise. It seemed like the competition was over before you know it, hence being short-lived. I just wish there was a bit more behind Sonny and everything going on with him. Already looking forward to the next one :D
I've beaten them all. Bring on Labyrinth of Lies.

        EPIC FAIL.

I was extremely disappointed with this game, for so many reasons. I am a diehard ND fan, and have played every game countless times. This game, is by far, my least favorite. It felt as if it had been designed in a hurry, with little attention to detail. The ending was absolutely ridiculous. I was kind of shell shocked that HER thought this ending was worthy of a ND game- it left you wondering who the villain was and what their motivation was. No in depth plot whatsoever. No elaboration or explanations at the end. The behavior of Nancy's team mate was so aggravating. The conversations were incredibly boring. Nancy rarely discovered anything interesting, nor was she able to be the sleuth we all know and love. Nothing was really cohesive. It was an extremely haphazard game, kind of just thrown together. No fun extras at the end. The two ways to earn extra points were just so boring. It felt like a chore to play. The gameplay was also EXTREMELY short.

This is the first Nancy Drew game that I almost regret buying. I buy these out of tradition, but I'll be looking at reviews before I purchase the next game. HER- you really need to reevaluate your design process. This game should have been epic, what with Sonny Joon and a fabulous location like New Zealand.

Instead it was an Epic FAIL.

I gave it a three. This is one of the worst ND games. It still doesn't beat Trail of the Twister, which is by far the worst and most boring game in the series, but this was still super unimpressive compared to most games. I kind of regret spending money on it and I wish I'd waited to read reviews since most people seem to dislike it.

            I rated it a 2.

One point for the graphics teams' character design of Sonny. There was a lot of attention to detail in his facial expressions, which made him an enjoyable (and cute) character. He looked like the Sonny I personally had imagined all these years, but better. Most of his dialogue was cute and quirky, but there was absolutely no depth to Sonny considering how prominent he was in the buildup to the game release.

One point for trying to think outside of the box with regard to the reality TV show setting, but it became far too predominant in the game. It overshadowed the "mystery." (What was the mystery again? The game played more like a busywork scavenger hunt to me.)

That said, I appreciated the effort to not make it another fallback on a "ghost" or haunting theme, so the reality TV thing could've been pretty unique.

One of the biggest flaws in this game was the misleading urgency to finish the TV show quests (which took up about 90% of the game, I'd estimate), which caused me to rush through and miss other parts of the game. There were also several overheard conversations and other important plot elements that weren't triggered on my end.

But the biggest problem with this game was the incoherent storyline that lacked any real mystery. No wait. The biggest, biggest problem was the unused potential of Sonny Joon. He was just kind of *there* while you ran around doing meaningless TV show quests. I got my hopes too high, I suppose. I thought we were going to understand who Sonny was. He was right there before us in all his bluey/purpley glory, a completely untapped mine of interesting stories.

I would usually rate higher for music and graphics, but those failed to impress this time. There was no spine-chilling music during a high-pressure moment. It was dead silent. I find myself wondering now if there was really any music at all. I can recall VEN's music right now, and I haven't played it in over 2-3 years. The graphics were average. Nothing spectacular, except the facial expression improvement I mentioned above.

Now that you mention the music, that reminds me of the fact that a few of the tracks reminded me a lot of tracks from past games. There was one song in particular that reminded me of a song from Deadly Device--it had the same melody, but was more watered down. It made me wonder if they used scrapped demos that were originally meant for other games but were ultimately thrown out.

                Can't get moving on it

I found myself logging off after about 20 minutes.. There was really nothing compelling to make me want to go on. I hope it becomes more interesting next time I log on. Dare to say ..... Boring?

While not among my favorites, I really liked this game and will play it again. The main problem I had was the final puzzle, had to look up the answer, and still didn't understand it. I don't think it was explained well enough on what we were to do. I gave it an 8.

                    Barely Passed the DC check

I rate a 3: barely passed the Difficulty check.

Like many people I viewed the aspect of Sonny Joon's character to be very impressive and on a larger scale, intriguing, as to the fact that he seems rather... capricious.

One of my biggest problems is the fact of the lack of any mystery what so ever and the shortness of it. I usually start these games on my days off so I can get through a good chunk. I didn't realize that the "chunk" would be about 8 hours of gameplay. The ending puzzle also knocked me off because I actually had to look up pictures for how to solve it as neither the board nor the strategy guide gave any insight into the answer to the question I had.

                    So all in all... 3/10

                      Space Baby!

I gave it an 8. I wish you got more mystery, but it was too focused on the game show, but yet I was hoping we could see other teams in action as well, but you couldn't... I wish we could have talked to sonny more about past cases. the game was a tad short as well, but I still really liked. it

I agree with you, I wanted to be able to question sonny more about past places hes when similar to Nancy... but I love the fact that it was focused on the game show, its different... I havent beat the game yet, but there is something i find super exciting about being in the competition. Also, going along with what you said, we didnt get to see the other team in action... I always wondered how they were beating me at challenges when they didnt even leave Base Camp. (or rarely left)

I rated MED a 6/10. This is from my review:

Bold to a fault, The Shattered Medallion suffocates entirely from its exhausting plot inconsistencies, over ambition, weak mystery, and obsession for originality. Unfortunately, its eclectic and disappointing plot ensures catastrophe, completely overshadowing MED’s solid characters, excellent puzzles, and refreshing lightheartedness.

Although its plot imprecision decimates the game as a whole, The Shattered Medallion receives a 6/10. I didenjoy MED. HeR beautifully designed Pacific Run’s New Zealand, adventure and exploration being at its finest and most enticing since HAU, or even DDI. Aside from Sonny Joon, each character was good, conversations being at their best in a long time. The puzzles reigned supreme. Yet I would only recommend this game to an experienced player, as I believe it is the worst portrayal of a true Nancy Drew mystery to date.

Exciting Game and I found an Easter Egg!

I just finished today. It was hard to put down. I don't think anyone will come to a dead end because the story and actions flow so well. I want to play it again and try a couple of things differently to see if the game will let me do it and what happens afterwards. It was fun and challenging without being frustrating. I gave it a 10.

                            Scenery: Fresh, colorful, and enjoyable!

Character interaction: I enjoyed the spirited conversations. The conversations weren't drawn out and boring. I enjoyed calling one character on the special phone. I would like to see more Sonny Joon in future games. Listening in on their confessions was fun and sometimes revealed the character's true feelings.

Puzzle Palace: At first I thought I wouldn't go in there much. Later, I kept going back to play and found it relaxing and fun. I never found out what the big machine-like thing was for, was it just for looks?

Mystery Hot Spot: I found a hot spot in the game where Nancy keeps saying, "Hmmm," when I click on it. I never did figure out what it was for. I tried everything on it.

Puzzles: I was able to do most of the puzzles on my own or with a little nudge in the right direction from the hints. That being said, I'll keep playing my old harp: I'd like to see ND games go back to mystery/action and nix on the puzzles.

Inventory: There was little inventory or combining items in inventory to make things. I enjoy the brain action this involves.

Locations: Lots of nice and interesting places to explore. Way to go!

I gave it a 5 because I really didn't like it that much but I guess it wasn't the worst ND game...
I won't go into much why I didn't like it because that would be a review but I will say
I was not really excited when I saw the teaser (even though we barely knew anything)
and when the official trailer came out I got excited but after playing I just didn't feel like it was worth
all the excitement. Hopefully the next game will be good (not going to get excited and the be disappointed like last time..)
