Tomb of the Lost Queen
Review by NancyFan232323
Swirling desert sands, deadly cobras, and a mysterious saboteur all reside at the Kingston’s dig site outside of Cairo. A recently uncovered tomb has excitement on the rise, and everyone is pondering the same question: Who is buried here? You alone, as Detective Nancy Drew, arrive only to find yet another mystery yet to solve. Do you accept?
Plot: 4/10
As you can see, a lower score dominates this area. I felt like the plot didn’t really develop until the last five minutes of the game. Also, two characters seem like the most likely suspects until the very end. I didn’t feel as though I was actually solving the mystery, except to find out who was in the tomb. The rest of the time I felt as though I was just witnessing one mysterious thing after another. In addition, you only really understand the plot if you dig deep into the game, reading anything and everything you can get your hands on, and talking to people as often as you can (on the phone or not). This last bit was great sleuthing, however, so it upped the score.
Characters: 5/10
The characters were very colorful, with many different personalities, but lacked in the physical movements. I get that most people have certain gestures they use when they talk, but I felt like they were literal robots. I loved the fact that we got to know more about the characters as the game developed!
Puzzles: 10/10
I thought all the puzzles were really quite good in this game. None of them seemed too tedious or anything like that. They were all quite fun and some even educational.
Difficulty: 7/10
Some elements in the game were challenging, but it wasn’t that bad. All the information you need to solve the game is there, really, but only if you search hard enough for it.
Ending: 5/10
The ending was so confusing to me the first time I played it. I didn’t understand the plot at all, and it made me think “What?”. However, after playing the game a few more times I understood it better, though I eventually got sick of playing the game so many times, I didn’t play it for about four months. Goodness knows I won’t be doing that again…
Awards: 10/10
I felt the awards were really achievable, but not too easy. They were just perfect.
Music: 10/10
Being the music freak I am (Oh, yeah, I’ve even bought the soundtracks from the 1-19th games), I just adored the music in this game. It was very suspenseful, mysterious, and had that almost Arabian sound to it. L O ♥ E D I T!
Graphics: 10/10
Wow, look at all these tens…Anyways, I thought the graphics were good overall. They seem quite realistic, or at least as realistic as a computer game can be without actually videotaping real people and creating a game out of that.
New Interface: 9/10
I really liked the new interface, but I liked the old one too. I really liked how all the stuff you still had to do in the Task List went to the top. Much better than scrolling to find what you have left to do. Honestly, sometimes I felt I spent half my time playing the game, and half scrolling in my task list. I didn’t like the fact where I couldn’t organize my inventory. I would much rather put it in the order I want, not the order I got the items in.
GLITCHS: 8/10
At the end, only once out of the seven times I played did Nancy say a line she was supposed to before someone else said a line. It was important to the plot, too. Other than that, when I opened the game to start a new game, it was super slow in the intro. I think that was just my computer being wonky, though. It was fine after a few minutes.
Overall Rating:78/100
Mostly because of the confusing plot, along with the ending and Robot characters, made such a low score. Overall, I was very happy with this game and thought it was a good time. I read a lot of things that ticked people off on the message boards, and I understand them, I just thought it was an excellent game.
