Can't get past dungeon gate/no one will talk to me

Help! I've gotten into the secret basement entrance, past the iron locks, and into the dungeon. I have a key but it doesn't open the dungeon gate. I took the spear from the suit of armor beside the door. I've tried adjusting the time of day but no one will talk to me (and I'm on Senior, so Bess and George are no help). I read something about Dexter needing to help me get past this gate but he isn't saying anything. Any advice?

You need a different key for the dungeon gate. Have you tried to go outside yet?
