I was able to oil the lever and discover the underground tunnel area but Jacques was not there sawing when I came down. I discovered the bar already sawed. I got stuck on what to do next so I watched a video and saw that I was supposed to catch Jacques sawing the bar (next to where I collect the spear from the knight armor) and have a conversation with him about the medallion where he would give me his locker combo. any ideas on how else i’m supposed to get his combo, or what to do next?

Hmm, I'm not sure. Can you tell me a little bit about what you did before this point? In the mean time I would suggest carefully looking around the library and elevatore shafts to make sure you didn't miss something, and see if any of the characters have something to say. Hopefully that'll trigger the cutscene.
