My Introduction
Hi everyone! I'm disneygirl12 and welcome to my 15th Cake Review! I hope you enjoy! :)
The Dossier series is quite different from the Adventure series, but I still find the Dossiers to be very enjoyable. In this game, Lights, Camera, Curses, Nancy is on her way to Hollywood to discover the cause of strange accidents happening on the set of the movie "Pharaoh." This version of Pharaoh is a remake of the original movie made back in the 1930s. Could the accidents on the set be caused on purpose for publicity, or is the rumored Hollywood curse coming true?
Good Cakes (pros)
The plot was direct and easy to follow. The main story branches off into new substories, but it all went together.
The characters were really good! Each of them were very unique and had their own thoughts and reactions. (I really liked Eda as a character. She was hilarious!)
The Dossier series introduces recurring minigames throughout the mystery. In Lights, Camera, Curses, the minigames were pretty enjoyable. There was a great variety, and a new challenge was welcomed each time.
There were so many fun places to explore! :D I was pleasantly surprised by how many diverse locations there were to visit.
I thoroughly (sp?) enjoyed the way the points system worked. After completing a chapter of the game, you will be rewarded with points. If you have a certain number of points by the end of the mystery, you would unlock a new alternate ending to the game! I found this very unique and interesting. This really encourages replay value!
I liked the choice of culprit at the very end. He/She was a bit unexpected, and the ending minigame was challenging!
I like the way the graphics worked out. The backgrounds and scenery had a nice 2D look, while the characters were CGI with a cartoony appearance.
The "hidden object" aspect of the game worked out really well. I'm not a fan of standard hidden object games, but in this game, it works differently. Pairing objects together was really neat!
Pancakes (so-so's)
Once you replay the game, you get to know the tricks, and it can be a bit easier to earn the alternate ending. (However, there are some parts that just might be a challenge!)
I feel that we didn't really get to know much about one of the characters, Molly. If she was the one who hired Nancy onto the case, how come we didn't figure much out about her?
All in all, Lights, Camera, Curses is a very fun mystery adventure. The use of minigames and mini-puzzles all surrounding a 2D environment made the game enjoyable. Everything in this game was smooth. I'm not going to compare this Dossier series to the standard Adventure series, because the two are so different from eachother. Both are quite enjoyable! :D
I can't give a full-on rating for this game since there is only one other game in the series, Resorting to Danger, but there are many things to like about this game and not many negatives. My overall ranking, as shown below, is a 4 out of 5 stars. Thank you so much for reading! Feel free to comment; they're always welcome! ;D
