..........................MyCatTilly Presents,
Ok the first of the Dossier series! Let’s begin, shall we?
Plot
Nancy is called to investigate some dangerous accidents at a movie set. But not just any set, because this movie is “Pharaoh”, a remake of an old Hollywood picture. The original movie has been shrouded in mystery ever since the star died on set due to an accident. Is it just a coincidence that the two movies are experiencing similar spooky events? Or is there really an old Egyptian curse?
The plot usually isn’t the most important thing in this style of game but I thought it was really well done. I don’t think I did it justice (above) at all. It was unique and interesting, with excellent twists.

Graphics/Art Style
The game looks great. I love that it’s a different style than that of the adventure series. Basically, the backgrounds are 2D and the main characters are 3D but they appear separately. It’s kind of hard to describe and it was a little odd a first, but ultimately I think it worked well and suited the game.
I love the little opening for the game, too.

Puzzles/Activities/Game play
I think the game is a lot of fun, I really do. I’ve heard some people compare LCC to those hidden object games but I’m not sure that’s the most accurate description. Basically, most of the game is “matching” objects that can be used together. Let’s say that you have a scene in front of you, and in that scene is a screwdriver, a locked drawer, and vent. So, you can use the screwdriver to unscrew the vent from the wall and that reveals a key. Use the key to unlock the drawer and voila! Simple, no? No, actually it get’s pretty tricky especially with lots of extra activities thrown in and additional mini games.
The best thing about the mini games is that they don’t throw them in too often. I’ve played several games that were ruined because of frequent mini games.

Characters
The characters are a little blah but they’re not really meant to be an important part of the game. It’s not like the adventure games where you can talk to them whenever you want. They just show up to advance the plot. Still, it would have been nice for them to be more memorable.
On another note, I was really excited to hear Nancy’s voice. It’s the same as the other series!

Overall
Yay for HER! I really enjoyed LCC and thought it was well done. I will happily purchase the next installment of the dossier series. And I thought I was going to hate it :p
Now, I think the problem with the game isn’t a problem with the game at all. It’s that people keep comparing the Dossier series with the Adventure series. I’ve heard a lot of “It’s just not Nancy Drew” and “It’s too easy and short” Well, it’s not supposed to be like the other Nancy Drew. You might like one series more than the other but you can’t really compare the two.
I’ve also heard a lot of “It’s just a hidden object game” but I really disagree. Granted, I haven’t played many hidden object game (because they bore me to tears) but the ones that I have played are nothing like this.
And two last thoughts. I loved how they referenced the adventure series at points (Charleena Purcell, anyone?), and I thought it was very interesting that the game began and ended with a letter similar to those in the old adventure games. Perhaps they’re trying to compromise?
Overall score: 8/10
Creepiness (10 equals terrifying): 1/10
Difficulty (10 equals hair pulling): 4/10
