  • Petition: Bring back the fun way of learning from the old Nancy Drew Games!!!

Hey everyone! So I've never done a petition before, but this is something I've always been a little passionate about in the Nancy Drew games: the educational component. When I first started playing Nancy Drew, I was enchanted by the complex plot and characters, but something else that I loved was being able to learn things that applied to the real world, too, like history among other things. In Curse of Blackmoor Manor, there was alchemy; Treasure of the Royal Tower had Marie Antoinette. Secret of the Scarlet Hand was devoted to Maya culture, and this game, as I have said a few times on the boards in regards to the learning component of the games, helped me get a question right about the Maya ball game on a quiz way back when!! Haha.

I'm not saying that recent games don't have the ability to make us work our brains to solve puzzles like they did in the past, but to me, it really seems like the games have lost the incentive they had to teach the players some tidbits about the place they are investigating and its history. I mean, sure, Trail of the Twister may have taught us about classifying tornados, and Shadow at Water's Edge taught a little bit about Japanese mythology, but most recently, we have The Captive Curse, and I don't know about you, but it feels like the only thing I learned from it is what "Auf wiedersehen" literally means in German. There are still things to be learned from the most recent Nancy Drew games, but the amount has seriously decreased, along with the need to learn.

So, after my rant, this is why I'm making this petition. I, along with a few of you, I'm hoping, want to see the learning component of the games return because the way the games taught me these things usually wasn't tedious or too difficult, but fun and interesting. So if you agree with me and think that the Nancy Drew games need to have more things, like history, to learn besides how to solve puzzles, please post and I'll put your name down below on the petition!

Thanks to everyone and happy playing!

I totally agree! I loved learning, and I loved the puzzles which had you looking at the periodic table, or using Morse code! And I love it when they used history. Make sure to sign me up!

I agree; I miss learning REAL history in the games. Without the history, the games feel empty and lifeless. I miss the connections between the past and the present that were felt so much in games like TRT, SSH, and DOG.

            I second that!
I agree completely with this petition and loved the actual education. Now, we get some cultural ideas but other than that the educational aspect is gone. Please do sign me up!

I love the educational parts in the ND games. I agree that HeR should make more educational things appear in the games. That is one of the only ways I get my mom to let me play ND games during the school year so if they stopped being educational all together... no more ND in the school year

I COMPLETELY agree with you. 100%

Once I was able to do an entire powerpoint/poster
board presentation SOLELY on the information from
SSH. I got a 100 on it, too I have also found
myself knowing things that I only knew because they
were in the classic games (Like about horses from
SSR, and about Marie Ant. from TRT, and Houdini
                          (SP?!) from FIN.)

Learning can be FUN! Especially from the classics. Do you agree?
Do you like the classics the way they are? Then sign.

                            Agreed!

I absolutely agree with you! TRT was my absolute favorite game since I love the 1600's and 1700's and anywhere around there. It's one of my obsessions and I absolutely loved learning about Marie Antoinette! And I really do miss the learning part in ND games! And like in The Secret of Shadow Ranch, we had to learn about horses! In CRY we learned about Crystal Skulls. Also in The Curse of Blackmoor Manor, I even learned about constallations a little bit and about stars and astronomy! I loved that! Sign me up!!
