  • Clarification of Mature Topics (What Isn't Allowed)

We have often said that our message boards are “PG” rated and that if you wouldn’t “say it in front of your grandparents, then you shouldn’t say it here.” However, that’s a pretty simplified explanation, and there’s really much more to it than that.

Perhaps a better way of explaining what is allowed, or not allowed, is by taking a look at the ESRB ratings that we adhere to in creating our games.
    _____________

    EVERYONE
Titles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language.

    EVERYONE 10+
Titles rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) have content that may be suitable for ages 10 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes.

    TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

    MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, indecent or explicit sexual content and/or strong language.
    _____________

If you’ll notice, the things that we do not allow on the message boards, such as any explicit, indecent or implied sexual content and/or sexual references, blood and gore, violence, strong language, and crude humor all fall under the “Teen” or “Mature” ratings. In order to keep our boards safe, and acceptable for ALL users, we must follow a strict set of rules that adhere to the guidelines of the “Everyone” rating.

Some of our members feel like they are being picked on because they are not allowed to discuss certain themes/topics, but this isn’t just a rule that the mods made up to “pick on” people. They are merely doing their best to hold all members accountable to the strict code of ethics that we have set to keep our message boards a safe and enjoyable place for EVERYONE.

Our message boards are here for one specific purpose: To provide a safe, respectable forum for people of ALL ages to discuss all things Nancy Drew and Her Interactive related. If users want to discuss mature topics (sexual themes, blood and gore, graphic murders, religions, etc.) there are plenty of other forums on the internet where they can go to discuss those topics.

Examples of what IS allowed in the forums:
    • Sexual identity/orientation (mentioning, speculating, theorizing, or questioning a character’s sexual identity or orientation)
    • Other non-playable characters using weapons
    • Indirectly consumed poisons (like carbon monoxide, tainted meat, poisonous gas)
    • Indirect violence (cutting the rope that drops the chandelier), defensive maneuvers
    • Religious practices performed by characters
    • Language that fits under the E10+ rating (If a character says it, you can talk about it on the boards. Examples: “bajeebees” “gosh” “nuts” “drat” “rats” “blast” “darn”)

Examples of what is NOT allowed in the forums:
    • Sexual-related actions or references, implied or explicit
    • Nancy (or player) using weapons to harm others
    • Directly consuming drugs, alcohol or substance abuse
    • Direct violence (by Nancy or player) such as using a baseball bat on a person
    • Religion may only be discussed as it pertains to the characters’ religious and spiritual beliefs. Users may also discuss or speculate on game content, but this should be posted in the Game Discussion forums. Religion may be expressed in your signature or in the Game Reviews forum as long as it is not offensive, disrespectful, hateful, rude or graphic. If the signature is reported to admin as “offensive” we may ask the user to change it or take it down. Failure to do so could result in a ban from the Message Boards.
    • Inappropriate language – words that are not allowed will be **** starred out. Please do not try to work around that if the word is ****’d.

Please help us to maintain this wonderful forum dedicated to everyone’s favorite girl detective by keeping the discussion topics appropriate for ALL ages.

Thanks for being such awesome fans and for your incredible enthusiasm on our message boards!
