I'm sad that we have to wait until next year to play Midnight in Salem, but I'm so excited for the new developments! It's definitely going to be worth it, I can tell. I totally understand and respect your decision. Thanks so much for listening to us from your survey! I can't wait to see all that will happen!

    Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
    let your request be made known to God;
and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

    Thanks NDsolver<3!!

I am so happy that HER will have a new game engine. It sounds like there will be much more developed in future games, and that's really exciting to hear. I don't mind that MID will be delayed until next year. Imagine how much better the game will be now that they will have more months to prepare and perfect it.
But, Thornton Hall isn’t exactly a breath of fresh air.
The murky air and the shadows that followed only seemed to muddle my brain more.
The possibility that Clara’s death was not murder was starting to become more than a plain consideration.
<<.return home.>> is coming back to the alternate ending boards
      SEPTEMBER

(in the meanwhile, catch up on chapters 1-9 here)
      stay tuned... ;-)

In my experience playing games & hearing about games on the unity engine, Unity is used for full-movement games (where you can look around in all directions). So it's a major change for the series, they'll never be like the old games :( But it would be modern gameplay that would probably bring the series more mainstream attention, so I'm hopeful.

Some full-movement games that are still in a similar point-and-click style to the games are Gone Home and Life Is Strange, which are also both mystery games of sorts. I really hope they go in that direction, and stick to the familiar-but-modernized point-and-click style, and still allow you to explore and have slow-paced game play. I'm not about a Nancy Drew game where you have to use combat and stuff, lol.

Looks like we're in for a long wait, I wouldn't be surprised if the game isn't even released until like 2017. It seems like games on larger engines get delayed a lot and that it's hard for devs to really predict how long it'll take, plus a series relaunch like that would take a long time.

If it works I hope it'll be a good move? But it's sad that our beloved old series is in a way ending. :(

Yes and no. Yes game consoles like the Wii & Xbox use unity engines in their game development, but they do a variety of games, and some of them are closer to the "point & click" types of games than others. Also many different types of gaming companies use unity engines. Apple has been using them since 2005. I read an article online just this morning that talked about a bunch of ways Linux (a system for PCs like windows, just a diff. company) programs use unity engines... So I don't think this necessarily means we'll loose the feel of the game-play, it's more likely going to feel like it did when TMB first came out (compared to the game before it)... But we'll see!

          They probably will :)

I personally think this is a good move for the company, it'll put them in a more competitive spot (and we all know they need that)!

            In the newsletter, it states:

One of the major limiting factors that prevents us from implementing many of these changes is our current propriety game engine.

I believe what was intended was "proprietary" game engine - if so, you might want to change that in the newsletter.

If the games go full movement I won't be able to play anymore. The movement makes me quite sick to my stomach. This makes me very sad, but obviously nothing I can do. I'll just wait and see, I guess.

when a game is full motion can you still play on your laptop with the track pad? or do you need a mouse/some kind of controller? I really enjoying playing these games in the evening on the couch or before i go to sleep, and I hope I can still play just with the laptop trackpad.

I tried a sherlock homes game that was full motion and it was really hard to play and control the movement, i couldnt even get out of the first room ; )

Most of the time you 'can' play it on a laptop but it's a ton harder. If they are going full motion it might be a good idea to get a mouse. :/

thanks WWNDD12! I hate using a mouse for games, I have to sit at a desk and it makes it feel like work : )

I can't stand the tracking pad; when I want to use the computer away from the desk, I just run the mouse against my leg. With a laser wireless mouse, it works just fine.

                        Confused..

I really don't understand what the updated graphic style in Her's letter means for Midnight In Salem? I'm hoping it's not the spinning room walk into walls style like Sherlock Holmes games. I get dizzy, frustrated and quit. I've never completed a game with that format. Wait and see I guess..

I really hope it isn't a full motion gameplay... I've never been a big fan of those. And I can't really see an ND game as that but who knows
To the message boards: When I think of this place, I think of the many wonderful memories and friends that I made here as a young teen (some of which I have to this day!). I would just like to say thank you to everyone who made this place special and added so much joy to my life. From alternate endings, to entertaining message board games, to picking through the details of every game, to being so excited when a new game was released, to speculating if MID would ever come out, and of course to the time where so many of us sleuthed every inch of CRE to find that darn (fake) easter egg , I have had so much fun here and made so many memories. The boards may be all but dead but I will forever cherish this place, even if I never return to it. Thank you to you all

(Thanks for catching that, Tedbear2, we have fixed that, because yes, we meant the other word. Good sleuth work!)

Hey all! Unity will certainly mean better graphics, but we plan on going for a point-and-click style game. There might be more move-ability, but it will not be too weird or hard.

Thanks for the reassurance, Mysty! I have to admit I don't really understand anything beyond the fact that it delays the game release, but I'm glad the game play won't change too drastically.
